It might seem like an obvious thing to say but after speaking to customers over the last 4 years about diets and nutritional habits it appears that many people struggle to get enough in.
The current recommended guideline for 10 portions of fruit and veg per day is often never hit on a consistent basis for the majority of people who shop with us. Many people don’t seem to understand the importance of ensuring that they get their veg in!
Heres a quick 3 reasons why you should cram them in:
- Veggies are rich in micro nutrients aka vitamins and minerals. These are essential to the body for a huge list of reasons including hormonal regulations, gut health, the immune system and general well-being.
- Fibre! Fibre is used to regulate bowl movements, increase good to bad ratios of cholesterol and aids digestion. Fibre is also great for those currently dieting due to helping fight cravings and keeping us feeling full.
- Phytonutrients and antioxidants. These aid with general health and fighting imbalances with hormones. Controlling oestrogen is one of the benefits of eating enough fruit and veg. Antioxidants help to fight damaging free radicals and aid in the fight with cancerous cells.
There are many more reasons to consume enough fruit and veg with these just being the tip of the iceberg.
1-2 80-100g portions with each meal spread across the day will be more than easily achieved for the majority of people. If you still struggle then we offer some fantastic greens powders in store but whole foods should make up the vast majority of your daily veggie intake!
